sprout growing out of pod

The Balsam was spent so i went ahead and pulled them up and saved the rest of the larger pods to get seed from and while i was opening up pods i ran across this.

Its a balsam seeding sprouting out of the actual pod itself. I didn't find this little surprise until i actually popped the pod open. out of the tons i opened i found about 5 like this.

I had a ton of seed so i decided that if the seed can sprout in the pod i'll lay some more seed down to see if i can get another flowering cycle before the warm season is over. If they go well, great. If not, i still have a bunch of leftover seed for next time.

I also ran across this little guy and had no clue what he was. Showed the picture to my dad and he instantly smiled and told me it was a click beetle. He said he used to find these as a kid and just hold them in his hand and they would literally click and move their whole bodies and make a very loud sound. pretty neat, but i opted to let him alone since he looked way too much like a spotted cockroach to me...the whole Indiana Jones temple of doom part where the lady sticks her arm into the hole in the wall full of bugs - i could SO not do that. Not scared of them but not really a fan either.
